ByDesign is a student-led initiative which aims to provide access to scientific problem- solving and design thinking for students coming from underserved communities. This project is a combination of structured learning tools, hands-on learning experiences and guided workshops which will help students to implement STEM in their everyday life.
At ByDesign our initial aim was to design an accessible guide with scientific reasoning which circles around real-world scenarios. We will create an activity book which features stimulation and is rooted in the foundational concepts of engineering. These resources will form the backbone of our student -led workshops that will be conducted in collaboration with our NGO partners. This not only fosters collaboration but also will give a free space to the learners for experimentation and problem-solving.
A beginner’s handbook on 3D printing called The Iterate Handbook was also created to strengthen the process. The handbook introduces the ideas of fundamental prototyping, design iteration and even the role of 3D printing, which can be used to mitigate community-based problems. The handbook will also demonstrate how NGOs can use 3D printing for low-cost solutions and modify designs.
Along with educational content, ByDesign will ideate a fundraiser program on milaap.com to support the STEM education programmes with partnered NGOs. The funds collected will help us expand our idea and get some learning kits for the learners, which, in turn will make the workshops more engaging. Our aim at the end is to democratize innovation and make sure that every student has the resources to explore, design and solve problems confidently.
